This financial literacy course is for attorneys new to practice, those wanting a refresher on bookkeeping, and those wanting to learn more about business accounting generally. This course is not intended to teach someone how to be an accountant. Instead, the course will teach you how to be conversant in accounting principles that apply to your law firm.

The course will cover the basics of bookkeeping and accounting for law firm operation, including:

  • how to read a balance sheet and income statement;
  • which taxes need to be paid when;
  • IRS reporting obligations;
  • the importance of monthly reconciliations of bank accounts;
  • basic internal controls; and
  • how to maximize profit.

No prior accounting experience required or expected. This course would also be appropriate for any of your staff that assist with accounting tasks.
