Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon Wildfire Damages Claims Update and Negligence Refresher
Speaker - Prof. Carol M. Suzuki, UNM School of Law
Carol Suzuki will discuss options to claim relei after the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon fires. In 2022, U.S. Forest Service prescribed burns got out of control and combined to become a wildfire whose devastation has led to claims of personal injury, loss of property, business loss, and financial loss. She will remind attendees of the elements of negligence as she provides an update on the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Act and regulations and compares it to the Federal Torts Claims Act.

This CLE provides attendees with a general knowledge of historical and current race related discrimination through the regulation of hair textures and styles commonly associated with race and culture. Additionally, presenters will discuss the ramifications of the new CROWN ACT inspired amendments to the NM Human Rights Act that include hair textures, styles, and cultural headdresses within the definition of race.
